Welcome to the home of "Heal the Healer” Retreat!
Here are our Goals, Target Audience, and what you can expect at the Retreat.
Goals:
- Create a platform to learn and share spiritual practices that may be incorporated into personal wellness and a mindful professional practice in Healthcare.
- Network with like-minded spiritually inclined Healthcare Professionals.
Target Audience:
Health Care Professionals (including those in Training) involved in direct care.
Introduction:
Healthcare workers are called to their profession by their desire to serve patients and make an impact in their communities. However, the current healthcare system appears to have become a barrier between the healthcare providers and their patients. Health professionals as a group are facing conflicting requirements at the workplace and this has become a string force leading to ‘burnout’ and reduced ‘wellness’. The drive to keep oneself emotionally and physically healthy to better serve our patients better, has increased over time. Many healthcare professionals struggle with these conflicting goals and think that it is not possible to achieve them simultaneously. Wellness has been described as being directly related to our love for what we do every day, the quality of our relationships, and the pride we take in what we have contributed to our communities. When we feel connected to our patients, our work becomes meaningful and we feel energized and fulfilled.
Retreat Summary:
The Retreat will introduce different ways to enhance our physical and mental health practices and make them an integral part of our daily lives for our own wellbeing. We hope this will in turn allow us to become beacons of light in our workplaces and transform them into places of ideal service.
The facilitated workshops in this Retreat will focus on the following topics:
❖ Heal the Body: There will be an interactive Yoga workshop led by Dr. Sunder Iyer that will introduce the participants to simple beginner’s yoga exercises, traditional yoga anatomy and a guided relaxation session.
❖ Feed the Soul: Dr. Sudhir Kumar will review practical ways of implementing the knowledge gained on ‘Better Nutrition’ for day-to-day application in our spiritual and physical health. Maya Iyer will join Dr. Sudhir Kumar and share her experience with creating recipes for good health.
❖ Calm the Mind: Dr. Jill Wener will discuss alternative modalities for stress reduction and pain management. She will introduce the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT, aka Tapping) as part of a self-care practice and discuss the science behind and history of this stress-reduction technique that has been used in several clinical settings such as depression and PTSD, and also shown to improve personal and professional relationships.
